WEBApr 21, 2020 · Two DIMM slots is the way to go for ultra-high speed RAM. That said, most people will probably never push RAM clocks further than you can generally achieve on Z390. I've gone as high as 4,133MHz on Z390 using 4x4GB modules. I've also gone to 3866MHz using 4x8GB modules.

WEBMay 19, 2005. Messages. 238. Hey all, As in the thread title, if i was too install 2 x 2gb sticks in the 2 and 4 slots on my motherboard would the results be the same as if i used 1 and 3. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6. Memory slots 1 and 3 are Yellow and 2 and 4 are red. In the manual it says it can handle dual channel in both sets.

For only 2 sticks of RAM ASUS recommends using slots A2 and B2. System barfs and the beeper goes long-short-short for bad RAM if either stick is in slot A2. Put either stick in any other slot and all works fine.

More ranks than that can overload/strain most CPU's memory controllers and you'll reach diminishing returns on CPU performance for trying to double your RAM.

WEBApr 13, 2005 · The old saw about 2 being better than 4 is largely related to how the architecture of the board feeds information from the RAM slots to and from the memory controllers on the cpu - mostly about the overall efficiency of different designs. The best / most efficient design is one dimm per channel, especially with single rank RAM.
