WEBJun 3, 2008 · The clouding from adding washing soda is not uncommon. Because of the local high pH it produces and the fact that it will raise TA faster than baking soda it can cause clouding even when the calcium is not that high and precipitate calcium carbonate. It is usually transitory.

Best to not use Soda ash. Better is to use baking soda to raise TA (if necessary) and aeration to raise pH. Report.

WEBMay 21, 2009 · If both PH and TA are low at the same time, it is best to use soda ash, which is the same thing as A&H Super Washing Soda. Add soda ash/washing soda until the PH is 7.2-7.4 or so, and then see where your TA is. Since your TA is actually on the high end, you want to use borax, which won't raise the TA nearly as much as washing soda will.

WEBMay 12, 2023 · Bring up your ph and alkalinity, - use Arm and Hammer Washing Soda first, it will raise both ph and alkalinity. Make sure you test in between, because you don't want your ph to go any higher than 7.2. If your alkalinity is in range, and you still need to raise your ph, use Borax to take it up to no higher than 7.2.

Use soda ash if you have it to bring the pH up to at least 7.0. Then measure the TA again and see if it needs to be adjusted further.

Well for the moment, washing soda I think is baking soda.
