WEBMar 4, 2009 — Personally, I would attempt to find a good layer feed that fit my budget before I'd switch to feeding my chickens horse feed. Perhaps you might consider downsizing your flock rather than trying to economize on feed this way. Birds who don't receive adequate nutrition won't produce properly, and aren't worth feeding, IMO.

WEBMay 13, 2013 — I have used the horse pellet bedding, both the pine and the corn cob. It is very absorbent and fluffs up a LOT, so you only need a little. My problem with it is it seems to hold too much moisture and packs hard as a rock, so clean out is a chore. I now use a little of it under my pine shavings to help absorb moisture.
Does anyone make a fine rake for raking/sifting bedding in a coop?
WEBJul 26, 2010 — papeine, I'm with you. I don't understand how these forks could remove the chicken poops & let the shavings fall through. I googled "future fork" & I could see how it would work for horse poop, but have a hard time understanding how it could get the chicken poop & leave the shavings. The same with a kitty litter scoop.
