We took the advice and stopped at each of the overlooks around the road. Each offered a different stunning view of the lake. Part of the road was closed for construction so we didn't make it around… Full review by fredinmn

If you are going to Crater Lake, then you will end up on the Rim Drive, unless you do not want to see the lake. When we were there, you could not circumnavigate the lake as there was construction on… Full review by Indyinin

Your best bet to see the lake in March or April is at Rim Village. The NPS website notes, "Highway 62 and the road to Rim Village (Munson Valley Road) are plowed and open all year," subject to temporary closures. Check the park's "Current Conditions" web page. Rim Drive is a different matter. MAYBE you can get on West Rim Drive in ***late*** April, but East Rim Drive doesn't normally open to vehicles until July. After all, Crater Lake gets about 44 feet of snow per year!

No, the Rim Drive generally closes on November 1, or even earlier if there is snow. The park entrances remain open, as does the road from the south entrance to the Rim Village, so you can see the lake year round (except during heavy snow). But you can’t drive around the Rim Drive until it reopens in the spring (usually May or June).
