Hi, I have seen below that in January 2019 there was no entrance fee to Itcha Kala, if we just want to walk. How does it look like now? Hi, I have bought a VIP ticket covering all 16 sights. museums and allowing 2 days visit. I mention I was accommodated at a guesthouse in Itchan Kala - and I recommend it. . VIP ticket costs 150.000UZS (som, it is the local currency) If you enter the eastern gate you can walk freely around, without a ticket, but you can't enter the museums. Kalta Minor is a minaret, yousee it from outside, Anyway, I recommend to take a ticket, - there are also tickets for just one day - and visit he madrassas which are now museums. Everything is open all the day till usuallu at 17.00 - 18.00 hours in afternoon. Regarding a comment here about the camels, you are NOT charged if you take photos of camels only if you want to take a picture of YOURSELF WITH the camels. Otherwise , you can make even a video of the camels in Khiva - I did. Don't miss the museums and madrassas, their arhitecture is interesting and expositions rich. It is different form Bukhara and Samarkand, believe me! With you nice stay. And note: Uzbekistan is a cheap place - transport is cheap, most of museums do not charge anymore some extra fees for camera, food is very cheap and people are extremely friendly. So try to get accommodation inside the Ichan kala walls! If you go out and you don-t have a ticket, on rturn you have to buy one, except you use the eastern entrance, where locals enter with their cars, taxis etc.And the sights mentioned by you should NOT be missed, you are there for visiting, so, the almost 15 euro you would pay for the 2-days ticket is not at all a rip off. An enter also the Music Museum, another former madrassa few steps away form the Kalta Minor - if you like music it is worth!

In Samarkand I would estimate that you are at least 1.5 to 2 days travel time from the city of Khiva within which is the old centre of Itchan Kala. You need a train ride to Bukhara and then a bus or car ride to Itchan Kala. There may also be train but I can''t comment on it. We took a car and it was almost 8 hours from Bukhara to Khiva. I will add that it is an extraordinary place to visit - and well worth the travel time. But I would not visit in winter months.
