Are the Castle grounds worth a visit? Was wondering how large The grounds are, Are there any gardens or forest areas that could keep our toddler busy for at least a couple hours and worth an our and half drive?

I would also tend to say no. The best thing about the gardens is the view of the castle. Not much else to note. In my view this is not a place to travel to unless you can enter the castle …

Q:
Does anyone know if I can gain access to take a picture of the front of the castle whilst the site is closed? Kind Regards Joe
A:
Yes you can. The site is an open one. You cannot go into the castle but you can walk ariund it. You will have to park on the road though. Good luck!
Q:
If you are a National Trust Member, do you still pay for entry to the castle?
A:
It's free if you are a National Trust Member. The castle will also offer a discount to admission if you travel down there by steam train-just show them your ticket.

When we went before, there used to be transport (I think a horse and buggy?) between the station and the castle, but apparently this has stopped. As we will have small children (2&4) in tow this time, does anyone know of any other way of getting between these two locations? I don't even remember if taxis are available, it was a long time ago!
A:
It is not too far to walk, if you have a buggy for the children I suggest that is the best way. A taxi would probably not want to travel to the station for a short ride to the Castle (and then …

It is not too far to walk, if you have a buggy for the children I suggest that is the best way. A taxi would probably not want to travel to the station for a short ride to the Castle (and then back again). The castle is almost in the middle of nowhere! The suggestion about talking to the local reps from the National Trust is a great idea, they are very friendly and have surely come up against this issue before. They do have electric "golf" buggies for transport within the grounds, I was there just last week, there are performances to mark the 100th year of women's suffrage so do try to get there, it is well worth it!
