This is an ok ruin, which is currently not accessible. It's only possible to view it from a far, as well as some local sheep (and a rather nasty land owner). Full review by TheShis

Stopped in here when we hit a detour. Ample and free parking! A quick jaunt up to the castle, along a small path which probably isn’t suitable for wheelchair users, to take a few snaps of the derelic… Full review by BobbyBond007

Kilchurn castle is a shell of a building on the side of a loch. It didn't look like it would ever be "closed" to me. If I remember correctly, we parked in a rather basic parking lot and walked down a long path. There might have been a simple gate that we had to open. I read another previous answer that said it is closed to the extent that you can't walk to the top of it, but you can walk around it and in the lower part. (I agree -- its a ruin and you wouldn't want to go up to the upper areas. )

I would agree, as per the above! Regarding the rubble car park, I would change into appropriate footwear when you arrive then put dress shoes back on when you reach the castle. Lots of lovel photo opportunities, both around and inside the castle, and on the far bank with the castle as a backdrop.
Q:
Hi there, is this dog friendly? Planning a visit in a few days as passed so often. Thanks
A:
As the landowner, I can advise that dogs are welcome but they MUST be on a lead at all times whilst on the land or in the castle !
Q:

A:

Hi! The castle is closed which means you can't climb to the top of it, but don't let that stop you. You can walk round it and there are places you can see into the interior. It's still well worth a visit for its location, right on the loch, and for the views you get of it as you approach. Hope you enjoy your visit to the area and that you do go and visit it.
