Fort Morgan Historic Site is a property of the Alabama Historical Commission. Fort Morgan was proceeded by Fort Bowyer (that was used during the War of 1812 on Mobile Point). The Fort Morgan was finished in 1834 by the U.S. Government with the purpose of protecting the trade in Mobile Bay from any foreign entity. The fort was occupied by troops during the Civil War, Spanish/American War, WWI, and WWII. The grounds also have a public pier, boat launch, and beach access. hwh

He also knew a lot of factual information about the fort. It made our visit VERY worthwhile. He even hung around afterwards for at least 30 minutes after the tour having a conversation with us!

I would not hesitate to swim there but you will have to decide that on you own.
