Tropical Storm Helene is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane before landfall, bringing moderate wind and heavy rain to Bay County.

Due to the threat of severe weather, Bay District Schools have set dates for closures and cancellation of sporting events.

The storm officially became Tropical Storm Helene about 11 a.m. Tuesday. It's forecast to hit the Florida panhandle as a major hurricane Thursday.
