Boom Supersonic, the American company building what promises to be the world’s fastest airliner, broke the sound barrier for its first time with a test flight in Mojave, California, on Tuesday.

A supersonic jet built by Boom Technology broke the sound barrier for the first time Tuesday, advancing its bid to resurrect high-speed passenger flights.

The Boom Supersonic aircraft exceeded Mach 1 after taking off from the Mojave Air and Space Port in California for its highly anticipated 12th test flight.

Boom Supersonic has announced the first supersonic flight of its XB-1 demonstrator aircraft at the Mojave Air & Space Port in California. The company claims the aircraft to be the “world’s first independently developed supersonic jet” and the “first civil supersonic jet” developed in the US.
