On Wednesday morning, the first VIPs queuing up outside the Grand Palais for Art Basel Paris were bathed in sunshine. Inside the historic, glass-covered exhibition hall it was like a greenhouse – hot and sweaty – as the mercury flirted with 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

The historic venue, recently restored to the tune of €466m, is among a number of cultural institutions in Paris affected by heavy rains this week

As the art fair moved into its new home, luxury brands from Louis Vuitton to Miu Miu and Chanel hosted events and exhibitions.
