Hurricane Milton strengthened rapidly in the southern Gulf of Mexico on Monday as it skirted the northern edge of the Yucatan peninsula, home to tourist hotspots and cargo ports, with a strike expected on Florida this week.

Hurricane Milton is an extremely large and dangerous hurricane. It is expected to make landfall late Wednesday along the Florida west central coast with the threat of up to 15 feet of storm surge, flooding and hurricane force wind that will be felt throughout central Florida.
