Panaji: A well-marked low-pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on Tuesday and continued to persist in the region on Wednesday. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that this development will have no impact on monsoon or weather patterns over Goa.

With the water already a foot above normal levels on Lake St. John on Saturday, more than 10 inches of rainfall was the last thing the lake needed this weekend, said Milton Rawles, a Lake St. John resident.

The IMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the west coast (Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, and Goa) till June 3. The IMD said there is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall over Kerala till May 30.

Visakhapatnam: North Andhra Pradesh has been experiencing intense rainfall. Heavy showers keep battering several districts with a fresh low-pressure area forming over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast.

IMD said that Southwest monsoon rainfall over India is expected to be 106 per cent of the Long Period Average. This projection is more than the 105 per cent forecast in the April update.

The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in southern India until June 2, with isolated extremely heavy rain likely in Kerala. Other regions, including Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, will also experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms during this period.
