Intel disclosed on Tuesday that mass layoffs will impact 2,000 jobs at locations in Oregon, Arizona and California.

Intel plans to lay off 385 workers at its sites in Arizona and another 319 in its California offices, in addition to the 1,300 Oregon layoffs the chipmaker announced Tuesday.

The layoffs in Oregon represent a little over five percent of Intel's workforce in the state, which totaled [PDF] 23,000 employees at the start of the year. However, this figure may not encompass the full scope of staff reductions hitting the R&D hub – including staff buyouts and early retirements, the brain drain could be even more substantial.

Intel, the Bay Area chipmaker, is cutting 319 jobs in Northern California as part of its massive 15,000-worker slash. The company is struggling.

Layoffs that Intel announced last summer got underway in earnest this week as the company works to cut 15,000 jobs across its business, the biggest downsizing in its five-decade history.

"As part of the broad-based cost savings plan we announced in August, we are making the hard but necessary decisions to reduce the size of our workforce," Intel told KCRA 3 in a statement.

Intel is laying off 251 employees in Austin starting next month, according to a WARN listing from the Texas Workforce Commission, amid global job cuts.
