Former justice minister and vocal Iran critic Irwin Colter says the RCMP told him last month that he was the imminent target of an Iranian assassination plot. That attack was foiled, but he remains under police protection.

The RCMP has told former justice minister Irwin Cotler that a plot by agents of Iran to assassinate him was foiled. Daniel Stanton, a former executive manager at CSIS, says good intelligence helped Cotler but that Canada needs to be more proactive in case there is a failure in intelligence in the future.
