President Donald Trump's suggestion that Egypt and Jordan take in Palestinians from the war-ravaged Gaza Strip is being met with a hard “no" from at least one of the two U.S. allies along with the Palestinians themselves,

President Trump said he had spoken to Jordan’s leader and planned to call Egypt’s. Mr. Trump’s suggestion echoes proposals from far-right Israelis. A Hamas official rejected the idea.

Gaza’s government media office called on all countries of the world to reject Trump’s plan for resettling Palestinians. “The talks about resettlement aligns with the (Israeli) occupation’s declared efforts during the aggression to displace our people,” the media office said in a statement.

President Trump said he had spoken to Jordan’s leader and planned to call Egypt’s on Sunday. Most of Gaza’s two million residents have been displaced in 15 months of fighting.

Trump said he discussed his vision on a call earlier in the day with King Abdullah II of Jordan and would speak Sunday with President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt.
