After helping lead the 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII in 2023, running back Christian McCaffrey was able to play just four games in 2024 due to injury.

John Lynch made it clear he hopes the team can work out a long-term deal with Brock Purdy, who's entering the last year of his rookie contract.

McCaffrey was sidelined in training camp with what the 49ers called a calf injury. He was questionable for Week 1, missed that game, and then went on IR until Week 10 with what turned out to be bilateral Achilles tendinitis.

Every year, almost every NFL team sends both its general manager and head coach to the NFL Scouting Combine to interview the draft-eligible players. Not the 49ers. At least, not anymore.

Speaking at the Combine, 49ers GM John Lynch said RB Christian McCaffrey is “doing great, doing really well,” and they think he should be available for part of the offseason program, via Matt Barrows.
