Lebanon now has a new government in waiting for the first time in two years after Nawaf Salam was nominated for prime minister.

Nawaf Salam, who has been designated as the new Prime Minister of Lebanon, has resigned as a member of the International Court of Justice, said the ICJ on Tuesday.

Lebanese Prime Minister-deisgnate Nawaf Salam has called for a new chapter in Lebanon "rooted in justice, security, progress and opportunities" in his maiden speech. Mr Salam said his "hands are extended to everyone" and that he is opposed "to exclusion",

Lebanon's Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam said on Tuesday his hands were "extended to everyone", in a gesture to the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group that accused opponents of seeking to exclude it by nominating him for the post.
