TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The winning numbers in Wednesday evening’s drawing of the "Powerball" game were: (five, nine, twenty-five, twenty-eight, sixty-nine, Powerball: five, Power Play: two)

According to the lottery website, nine lucky players matched five out of five numbers correctly in the Wednesday, July 9, drawing to win the game’s second-tier prize of $1 million. One of those tickets also matched the game’s Power Play to double their winning to $2 million.

Here are Wednesday’s winning lottery numbers: The estimated Powerball jackpot is $216 million. The lump sum payment before taxes would be about $98.4 million.

When a Connecticut man lost his lottery ticket, he “didn’t think too much of it.” However, fate had other plans. Looking “for some superstitious fun” on Friday, June 13, Russell Ruff of Somers bought a Powerball ticket for the drawing the next day, Connecticut Lottery officials said in a July 7 news release. One man in West Des Moines had some good luck this week. William Rogers won a $100,000 Powerball prize. The best part? He picked his own numbers. Rogers was just one number away from the $175 million jackpot. The state's largest unclaimed lottery prize as of May 13 is $50,000 — in fact, there are two $50,000 prizes waiting to be claimed.
