A&S sat along "Department Store Row" with other giants of retail that have long since been absorbed by other companies or shut down.

Macy’s is set to close five New York City locations over the next three months as part of its nationwide cutbacks. Of course, Macy’s Herald Square won’t be affected, but the Macy’s department store in Downtown Brooklyn that is beloved by so many longtime Brooklynites will be shuttered.

Macy’s is planning on closing 66 store locations, including several in the tri-state area. The Macy’s locations include three on Long Island, two in Brooklyn, one in The Bronx and one in New Jersey. The company said it is closing the stores due to underproduction and to focus their resources elsewhere.
