A surge in flu cases is causing several North Texas school districts to shut down their campuses. Comanche ISD and Morgan ISD have both had closures this week, and Godley ISD in Johnson County reported 650 out of about 3,000 students out sick on Tuesday, according to CBS News.

The flu isn't just taking its toll on schools. North Texas hospitals are seeing a big increase in patients with the virus.

Cases of flu are spiking across North Texas. On Monday, nearly 700 children were treated in the emergency department at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. On an average day, the emergency room sees 379 patients. The number of flu cases this year is set to surpass the past several years, the medical system said.

Godley ISD was forced to close due to flu cases. Other districts are monitoring rising absentee rates and planning deep cleans.

Just in the past 24 hours, the Cook Children's Emergency Department in Fort Worth has seen close to 700 patients.
