The city of Philadelphia says regular trash pickup will resume next week after a deal was reached to end the DC 33 labor strike.

The tentative agreement was announced on what would have been the ninth day of the strike. That period, which included the Fourth of July holiday weekend, created a backlog of trash. Some drop-off centers were overflowing.

The city’s largest public sector union and the mayor reached a tentative deal, ending a work stoppage that led to piles of trash on the streets.
