Martin Brundle believes Max Verstappen is likely to stay at Red Bull next season following the news that Christian Horner has been relieved of his duties as the team’s F1 CEO. Horner, 51, has been in charge of Red Bull Racing since its inception in 2005 but will be replaced by former Racing Bulls team principal Laurent Mekies after a shock announcement on Wednesday morning.
Red Bull has lost several key figures across the past 18 months, most notably design legend Adrian Newey, Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley, and Chief Designer Rob Marshall. The sacking of Horner means that a fourth pillar of long-term success is gone.
Meanwhile, the Red Bull drivers found themselves in a few incidents and ended with no points, making it a “ home race to forget .” Max Verstappen’s day was done by Turn 3 when he was hit by Kimi Antonelli, who locked up heading into the corner, and Yuki Tsunoda battled with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto on and off throughout.
