The deadly floods that struck Texas on the 4th of July caught local officials off guard as the torrential rains caused the Guadalupe River to overflow in minutes.

KERRVILLE, Texas — With more rain on the way, the risk of life-threatening flooding was still high in central Texas on Monday even as crews search urgently for the missing following a holiday weekend deluge that killed at least 82 people, including children at summer camps. Officials said the death toll was sure to rise.

Time-lapse video captured the fast-rising Llano River near Kingsland in Texas. The death toll rose to 79 people across six counties after catastrophic flooding hit the state.

Heavy rain poured over parts of central Texas, dumping more than a month's worth of rain for places like San Angelo.
