Blue-green algae are often mixed in with other types of algae. The city said it is not aware of any human or pet health problems from harmful algae in Austin before 2019.

The Department of Health issued an advisory after detecting cyanobacteria, commonly called blue-green algae, at the C-44 Canal that runs from Lake O to the St. Lucie Lock & Dam on May 19.
