Connor McDavid crushed the hopes and dreams of Americans everywhere when he delivered a 3-2 overtime victory for Canada over the United States

Connor McDavid etched his name in Canadian hockey history with a golden goal Thursday in Boston, winning the game 3-2 in overtime to secure a tournament title that felt bigger than anything ever played during an All-Star break. After 68 minutes of intense, high-level play, it took just one Team USA defensive lapse for Canada to win it.

Nathan MacKinnon struck early for Canada, and Brady Tkachuk followed it up to the U.S. before the end of the period. Jake Sanderson, who has the tools to be a top defenseman in the league in short order, gave the Americans their first and only lead of the game in the second period, which was answered by 2014 fourth-overall pick Sam Bennett.
