Cathay Pacific said it expects to resume full operations by Saturday after inspecting its long-haul Airbus A350 fleet following engine issues with one of its aircraft mid-flight, adding it had found 15 planes that were affected.

Cathay Pacific said it identified an engine component failure after the aircraft returned to Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific has not specified which engine component failed, but the carrier said it was the "first of its type to suffer such failure on any A350 aircraft worldwide".

The Hong Kong-based carrier said on Monday it had identified an “engine component failure” in a Zurich-bound A350 aircraft that forced the plane to return to Hong Kong. The engines for the wide-body plane are made by Rolls-Royce but the airline did not specify the component in question.
