The hatched areas on the National Hurricane Center's tropical outlook map indicate "areas where a tropical cyclone — which could be a tropical depression, tropical storm or hurricane — could develop," said National Hurricane Center Deputy Director Jamie Rhome.

Fernand is not expected to pose a threat to Florida or the U.S. as it moves north in the central Atlantic before dissipating later this week.

Fernand was a tropical storm in the Sargasso Sea early Monday Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Fernand is the sixth named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2025.
