Rashford joined Sancho on the list of loaned-out United players when he signed for Aston Villa this winter. It is the first time Rashford has played for any team other than the Red Devils since the 27-year-old graduated from their academy nearly a decade ago.

Sancho’s ‘freedom’ message has drawn ire from United supporters who watched the former Borussia Dortmund star flounder during his three seasons back in Manchester while being among the club’s biggest earners. While his message appeared to be an attempt to elicit support from a fellow United exile, Rashford was not on the same page.

Freedom, indeed. Jadon Sancho’s rebel yell in support of Marcus Rashford is arguably the dumbest social media post in the history of sport, and perhaps the most insensitive. It betrays a nauseating sense of entitlement and points to the degree to which some elite footballers have become separated from reality.
