An identity theft prevention company is warning tech users about AI tools that can crack common passwords in just minutes. Here is what to do to protect a password.

The company used the new password cracker PassGAN (password generative adversarial network) to process a list of over 15,000,000 credentials from the Rockyou dataset and the results were wild.

Meet PassGAN, the supposedly “terrifying” AI password cracker that’s mostly hype AI cracking is on par with conventional methods, but you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise.

After feeding more than 15.6 million passwords into an AI-powered password cracker, researchers concluded that it is possible to crack 51% of common passwords within a minute.

Early benchmarks show the 4090 crushed the cracking capabilities of the previous market leader, Nvidia's RTX 3090.
