Microsoft is developing a home-grown version of the popular Python scripting language that's called IronPython, which will run on the .Net framework.

AppleScript is the best-supported language, but it tends to infuriate programmers; fortunately, there are a third-party JavaScript component and modules for Python and Perl (look in CPAN under 'Mac').
