Residents and visitors have been warned to avoid large indoor gatherings where rock slides occur, and lots of hotels have been instructed to drain their pools to reduce potential quake damage.

Greek authorities deployed emergency services on the holiday island of Santorini to make sure people were out of harm's way, as hundreds of mini-quakes continued to rattle the area.

Hundreds of quakes have been registered in recent days in the Aegean Sea between Santorini and Amorgos, prompting authorities to shut schools and the islands of Ios, Amorgos and Anafi.
