Benchmark indices continued to decline for a second consecutive session on Wednesday taking cues from weak global momentum and lukewarm quarterly results from sector majors. The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex ended 318.

The BSE Sensex tanked 494.75 points or 0.61 per cent to settle at 81,006.61. During the day, it tumbled 595.72 points or 0.73 per cent to 80,905.64.

Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, NTPC, JSW Steel, State Bank of India and Adani Ports big gainers.

Among sectors, oil & gas, realty, telecom indices ended in the green, while auto, IT, pharma and media were down 0.5-1 percent.

The domestic stock markets opened in deep red on the last trading session of the week with BSE Sensex crashing as much as 585 points or 0.65 per cent decline whereas the National Stock Exchange’s benchmark index Nifty 50 tumbled more than 158 points or 0.
