US stocks recovered from losses on Wednesday to close higher on the day. Earnings from Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and AMD (AMD) fell short, but Big Tech got a boost from a jump in Nvidia (NVDA) shares. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) rose 0.

The Dow was on pace for a 0.4% weekly gain, while the S&P 500 was up 0.5% so far and the Nasdaq Composite was 0.7% higher through Thursday, according to FactSet. The blame for the Dow being down so much, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are rising, can be put on two stocks, those of Honeywell and Salesforce.

US stocks fell on Friday as investors reacted to the possible threat of more tariffs while digesting a jump in consumer expectations for inflation, and the monthly jobs report. The markets took a leg lower after a report from Reuters said President Trump told Republican lawmakers that he plans to announce reciprocal tariffs on American imports as early as Friday.

Trump seemed to indicate the Japanese company was Nissan, but there was speculation that he had misspoken and meant to say Nippon Steel, which has been seeking to buy out the iconic American company.
