Shortstop Dax Kilby, who had signed with the Tigers out of Newnan High School in Georgia, was the first player with Clemson ties to be selected in the draft. Kilby was ranked as the No. 62 overall prospect by MLB.com but was drafted well ahead of that projection by the Yankees with the 39th overall pick.

Cam Cannarella did everything right in college. The Miami Marlins made Cannarella the No. 43 overall selection, a pick with a $2.2 million slot value. Two years ago, some analysts said Cannarella would’ve been a top-10 pick.
