Plans to build an arena for the Sixers in Center City have fallen through, and the team plans to stay in South Philadelphia, sources close to the negotiations say.

David Adelman said 2024 was a good year for him, his businesses, and Philadelphia. And it sure seemed like it. During a sentimental New Year’s Eve post on X, the billionaire shared a video montage of his accomplishments including the plans for the 76ers’ Center City arena.

After years of planning and ongoing debate, the planners behind a proposal to bring a Sixers arena to Center City have backtracked. Instead, the team will get a new arena in South Philly, an official claimed.

The deal comes just weeks after a grueling legislative battle in which the Sixers convinced City Council to give it the green light to move to Center City.

Monday, the Sixers revealed more about the agreement, which includes a 50-50 joint venture to build a new, "world-class, state-of-the-art arena in the South Philadelphia Spots Complex that will be the new home of the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers," in a press release.
