The judges dismissed appeals by two women who threw the soup in the National Gallery in London in October 2022. In their judgment, the Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr, Mr Justice Lavender and Mr Justice Griffiths ruled that six of the 16 should have their sentences reduced while dismissing the other appeals.

Six Just Stop Oil (JSO) protestors who were jailed for taking part in climate demonstrations - including Extinction Rebellion's Roger Hallam - have had their terms reduced. Last year, 16 activists were sentenced for their involvement in four demonstrations led by JSO between August and November 2022.
