Plague is a “potentially life-threatening disease” caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to the Cleveland Clinic, there are three types of plague: bubonic, septicemic and pneumonic. Each one is named for the part of your body that gets infected.
