Erin Patterson has been found guilty of murdering three of her estranged husband’s relatives, who died after she deliberately served them poisonous mushrooms for lunch.

Erin Patterson, the Australian woman accused of murder and attempted murder of her estranged husband’s relatives with poisonous mushrooms in July 2023, has been found guilty. The trial lasted 10 weeks and featured over 50 witnesses. Patterson, 50, faces life in prison.

The fact she had no clear motive was central to her defence team’s arguments. Patterson, who foraged wild mushrooms in her spare time and also ate the beef wellington, claimed that the event was a tragic accident.
