It's back to the basics for the New York Jets. No, really. The Jets (3-7) are preparing to face the Indianapolis Colts (4-6) this week. In doing so, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich revealed some of the plans he has for practice.

Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich is trying to tackle the team’s biggest defensive issue — tackling. Ulbrich saw his team miss 20 tackles in Sunday’s 31-6 loss to the Cardinals. He is trying to get things fixed with some changes in practice this week.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich revealed his plan to improve the New York Jets' tackling while acknowledging numerous injuries.

“Defensively, the story was tackling, 100 percent,” Ulbrich said. “An egregious, criminal amount, of missed tackles.” From a player perspective, linebacker Jamien Sherwood provided the context. While the Jets have only won one game since Ulbrich took over as interim head coach, Sherwood is not pointing fingers.

Kyler Murray and the Cardinals easily sliced through the Jets all afternoon. They finished with 406 total yards, including 147 on the ground, and 28 first downs and went 5 of 7 on third down. The Cardinals' first three possessions were 70-yard touchdown drives. And they punted just once — on their second-to-last possession.

"We're going to keep fighting. In all honesty, the playoffs should be the last thing on our mind right now. We've just got to play better football," said Jeff Ulbrich after the 31-6 road loss that dropped the Jets' record to 3-7 overall.
