An attack on an open market in the Sudanese city of Omdurman by a paramilitary group fighting against the country’s military killed some 54 people and wounded many more, health authorities said Saturday.

At least 54 civilians were killed at a market place in greater Khartoum on Saturday, according to a medical source, in a strike by the Sudanese paramilitary, who have been locked in conflict with the country’s regular army since April 2023.

Since April 2023, the paramilitary RSF has been at war with the regular army, in a brutal conflict that has killed tens of thousands and uprooted over 12 million.

Some 70 people were killed in an attack on the only functional hospital in the besieged city of El Fasher in Sudan.
