The third-ranked Gophers men's hockey team scored five unanswered goals in the first period and Notre Dame was never able to find its way back, or any luck, in a 5-2 Minnesota victory Friday night at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.

Snuggerud tied the score 1-1 at 12:33 of the first with his 15th goal of the season, and it was a beauty. On the play, Snuggerud raced past Notre Dame defenseman Jaedon Kerr, cut toward the net, toe-dragged the puck to get Say to commit and fired the puck through the five hole.

Matthew Wood scored in the third period to force overtime before the No. 3 Golden Gophers fell to Notre Dame in a Big Ten Conference men's hockey matchup Saturday evening inside 3M Arena at Mariucci.
