NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is reportedly in favor of changing the league's playoff format in an effort to make late-season games more exciting.

NFL owners met in the Minneapolis area on Wednesday to hash out proposed rule changes and other key issues ahead of the 2025 season. Their discussions came a day after the latest round of owners meetings kicked off and resulted in some major news regarding the league's international endeavors (more on that below).

NFL owners voted against a proposed ban on the tush push Wednesday, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.

Lurie pointed out the need for owners to consider the fact that they are stewards of the game itself instead of voting based on what helps or hurts their specific teams: “We are owners, not members.”...

The new format will seed teams directly based on their final CFP rankings for the 12-team bracket and strip first-round byes from conference champions.

After last year's 12-team CFP gave byes to the four most highly ranked conference champions, this year's will not.

The change is a power play by the Big Ten and SEC that comes at the expense of the ACC and Big 12 champions and the top-ranked team from the Group of Five.
