The devastating floods that struck central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend have become one of the deadliest flood events in the U.S. in the past century, Newsweek previously reported. By Sunday evening, authorities had confirmed at least 82 fatalities.

Flash flooding in Texas Hill Country, triggered by intense thunderstorms, has resulted in at least 81 deaths, including at least 28 children. Camp Mystic, a girls' camp located on the Guadalupe River, confirmed at least 27 deaths among campers and counselors.

A flood watch issued for parts of Texas has been extended into Monday evening, leaving thousands at risk. The National Weather Service San Angelo office said on Sunday that flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall could occur in Heartland, portions of Concho Valley, Edwards Plateau and Hill Country until 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
