The U.S. Senate race is going to an automatic recount, requiring already exhausted election officials to reprocess seven million ballots in under two weeks.

Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt said Wednesday that the unofficial vote count for the U.S. Senate race between Democrat Bob Casey and Republican Dave McCormick is within the 0.5% margin, which means the race will go to an automatic recount under state law.

Bob Casey, a Democratic senator from Pennsylvania, was trailing Republican Dave McCormick by roughly 30,000 votes Wednesday afternoon.

Pennsylvania will recount the race between incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick, who leads by 28,000 votes.

The U.S. Senate election in Pennsylvania between Democratic incumbent Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick is headed for a statewide recount, as counties continued Wednesday to sort through outstanding ballots and the campaigns jousted over which ones should count.
