MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in after the Shelby County Sheriff's Office was involved in a shooting in Northeast Memphis. It happened around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, in the 1600 block of Shelby Oaks Dr.

One person is dead Tuesday after a Shelby County deputy fired shots at a subject in a stolen car in northeast Memphis, authorities said. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate.

Investigators said the deputy found someone in a stolen car. It was immediately unclear how things escalated, but the situation ended with the deputy firing at least one shot, hitting and killing a suspect.

The deadly shooting happened in the 1600 block of North Shelby Oaks Drive Tuesday morning, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO). The TBI was immediately called in to investigate the shooting, as is standard practice when a law enforcement officer shoots a suspect.
