A 51-year-old San Diego native, Jeff Brady, drowned while rescuing two children from the Colorado River near Hidden Shores Resort on Saturday. Brady, who had recently moved to Yuma, Arizona, to care for his blind father, is being hailed as a hero for his selfless act.

A group of people were at the Horseshoe Island sandbar when two children were pulled off the shallows by the current, the Sheriff's Office said.

Jeff Brady died after saving his girlfriend's nephews, who were swept away by the Colorado River in Yuma over the Fourth of July weekend.
