Ron DeSantis doubled down on his push for the state to pass new laws to fight illegal immigration, even as Republican legislative leaders are reticent to do anything until the regular session that begins in March.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) mocked criticisms that the special session he has called for is “premature.” With President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration less than a week away, DeSantis requested the Florida legislature to meet on Jan.

Among his priorities, the governor said he wants to force local police to assist with immigration enforcement and require E-verify for money transfers.
