Gov. Jim Justice has activated members of the West Virginia National Guard to support ongoing disaster response and recovery efforts in North Carolina and South Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

A 12-person fatality search and recovery team from the West Virginia Air National Guard will deploy to North Carolina on Oct. 1, 2024, to assist in locating flood victims in the wake of record flooding created by Hurricane Helene.

Justice announced Tuesday evening that the mission to help North Carolina has been put on hold, but the mission to South Carolina is still on as planned.
