New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye took a hard helmet-to-helmet hit on the sidelines on the first drive of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to Jan. 6, 1964, editions of the Globe the day after the game, Gillman and the Chargers devised a scheme designed to pull star Patriots linebacker Nick Buoniconti away from the middle of the field, which they believed would open up running lanes all the way to Chula Vista.

Drake Maye has had a strong, promising rookie season for the New England Patriots. But now there is some concern over concussions. On the Patriots' first drive of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers Maye suffered what appeared to be a second concussion in a little more than two months after taking a big hit.
